5 Superstars Who I Hope Return For One Final Match.

Kurt Angle

Potential opponent: Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan

Kurt Angle was arguably one of the greatest in ring
competitors in WWE. Being an Olympic gold medallist in men’s free style
wrestling, it’s kind of what you’d expect as well. Since quitting the WWE in 2006 for ‘health
issues’ Angle has wrestled regularly in TNA.
Who knows what could have happened had McMahon allowed Angle to have a bit of
time off and not try to wrestle hurt.

Then again, maybe the same thing could be said about CM
Punk… but let’s not get into that.

Should Angle one day return for a last match with WWE,
there’s a few potential superstars he could face off against. Obviously, this
can’t be some sort of throw away match to put over an unproven younger star
only for them to amount to nothing more than a jobber (directly jab at Jericho
and Fandango.) With Angle being absent for so long and being such a huge part
of the company when he left, Angles last match should be a big match against an
established star in a match that would create a huge buzz.

The 2 potential options I’ve picked would fit the bill
perfectly. Angle has a good history with Lesnar and one last match between the
two, at WrestleMania has so much potential.

However, another option might be Daniel Bryan. When healthy,
Bryan is one of the most popular and best technical wrestlers around at the
moment. Rumours circulating suggest that Angle has asked for any final match in
WWE to be against Bryan, so that certainly helps. Angle vs Bryan has all the
tools needed to make a 5* feud. The fans would be heavily invested and the in
ring work would be gold.

A match with either of the 2 would be amazing, but
unfortunately, only one can be done. The buzz around Angle making one last
match in WWE wouldn’t feel the same should he return part time after that for
enough feud. This should be a onetime thing.

Shawn Michaels

Potential opponents: Triple H, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, DX

vs Anyone

Shawn Michaels is a very controversial entry into the list
as he is supposed to be retired at the hands of the Undertaker after losing to
him at Wrestlemania 25 and 26, the latter being a streak v career match.

Since then, Michaels has done various backstage work with
the company and made a lot of television appearances, most recently at
WrestleMania 31 where he planted a sweet chin music on Stings chin.

However, the questions always loom about whether Michaels
would lace up his boots for one last match. At the age of 50, Michaels is
leaving it late if he does plan on doing so. Whilst some may argue that a
Michaels return would be disappointing as it shows disrespect to the Undertaker
and undermines the idea of once you’re retires, you’re retired. But, surely a
little part of you wants to see the show stopper stop the show one last time?

Should Michaels have a return match, you would think Triple
H would be involved, a possible opponent maybe? As good as that would be, this
late in their respected careers, a full aggression filled feud would feel
stupid. Perhaps a friendly fight is possible, as both of their final matches.
On the other hand, a match as part of DX would be better in my eyes.

Seeing DX team up one last time would be great. Perhaps with
Triple H calling out Michaels as a tag partner after being beaten on by 2 other
superstars. Maybe.

Daniel Bryan makes his way into the Shawn Michaels potential
opponents again. referred to by a few as sort of a ‘Shawn Michaels 2.0’ and
with his history with Michaels (being trained by the heartbreak kid.) Including
their clashes with each other during Bryan v The Authority last year, the
history, popularity and in ring clash between these two would be amazing. It’s
a shame to think, it’s more likely going to stay a dream match rather than a
reality.

Dolph Zigglers a potential opponent because… why not?
Ziggler v Michaels would be a great match, unfortunately, WWE would never book
Ziggler in such a high profile match. But if only we could see this match just
once.

Shawn Michaels

JBL

Potential opponents: Practically anyone on the roster.

Current commentator and former superstar JBL is another who
is surely due one last match. WWE has a history of having their commentators
having a couple of one of matches or occasionally entering the Royal Rumble
match. John’s Current broadcast partners
Michael Cole, Booker T and Jerry Lawler have all been involved in the in ring
action alongside their current role over the past few years.

There’s no reason to think JBL won’t do the same. Since
taking back his role as commentator in 2012, JBL has already been involved in
numerous in ring altercations over the past year, including his entry into the
2014 Royal Rumble and attacking The Ascension with The New Age Outlaws and
former tag partner Ron Simmons.

It actually seemed as if JBL was set for in ring action
again back in January after their attack on The Ascension. Layfield had been
vocal about his hatred for the tag team since they arrived on the main roster
and after they defeated The New Age Outlaws at the Royal Rumble rumours
circulated that the new duo could be set to face off against former tag team
partners JBL and Ron Simmons. However, nothing ever came of the rumours.

JBL has a tendency of running his mouth when calling the
action during Raw and you would have to think that one day this is going to
land him in a return match. His opponent? who knows. He practically ‘hates’
every face on the roster. On the other hand, if I was to pick an opponent for
JBL, I’d say Dean Ambrose. JBL always states his displeasure at the thought of
Dean Ambrose becoming WWE champion. Perhaps costing Ambrose a shot at the title
in the future could lead to a match at the following PPV.

JBL

Jeff Hardy

Potential opponents: Cesaro, Orton, Balor, Owens, Neville,

Rollins, Zayn.

One of the most popular characters in his time, Jeff Hardy
is another superstar that I would love to see back again, but also I expect to
make at least one more appearance with the company. Despite Hardy’s history, not just with the
WWE, but in general, having Hardy make his return would be a huge draw.

Hardy, currently out of action with a broken leg sustained
whilst competing in TNA, has had 2 spells with WWE before leaving in 2009. The
first came to a rather abrupt ending. Hardy refusing to go to rehab and his in
ring performances dropping, the company had no other option but to let him go.
However, Hardy did return to the company for a second spell in 2007. This time
lasting for 2 years until he left to nurse numerous injuries.

Since then, Hardy has spent his time with TNA. But rumours
are always around that Hardy is expected to join back with WWE once his
contract runs dry. Unlike most superstars on this list, Hardy is still
relatively young. At the age of 37, there is no need for Hardy to rush into
anything. In fact, there’s a good chance that Hardy could return full time.
Depending on his health though, it might be more likely that he will return as
a part time star much like Jericho and RVD in the past few years.

Should Hardy come back part time, there’s a lot of potential
opponents which would be amazing to watch. But for the sake of this piece,
let’s say he gets one more match. My choice is Rollins. Rollins is one of the
most entertaining heels around and one of the future faces of the company. The
styles of both Hardy and Rollins would make for an entertaining match and would
give Rollins an important win over a past world champion. Hardy as stated in
the fact that he would like to take part in a Hell In a Cell match should he
return to WWE, put these two inside the cell and I’m sure they won’t disappoint.
However, given Jeff’s history, a ladder match would seem more fitting.

Other than that, a programme with either Neville and Sami
Zayn is another option. Both are young and could truly benefit from a win over
an established star. I would just love to see Hardy back in a WWE ring,
regardless of his opponent.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Potential opponents: Triple H, The Rock, John Cena

Will he, won’t he? Each time WrestleMania rolls around we
usually see an appearance from the Texas Rattle Snake. However, many wonder
whether one of these times he’ll be lacing up his boots for one last match.

The potential of having Austin fight one more time is huge.
Austin is easily one of, if not THE most popular superstar amongst fans. With
that said, there’s reason to believe that it’s Austin that is delaying the
fight, not WWE. The money and buzz that could be generated from a main event
including Austin would be too tempting for McMahon to not take advantage of
already, which is why I believe Austin is the one holding back from a match. He
has a history of knee issues as well as a scary neck and spine injury suffered
back in 1997and if he doesn’t believe he is healthy enough to fight, then he
won’t. Which is fair enough.

BUT… there’s a good chance that may change. If Austin is
medically cleared, then it’s up to him whether he delivers the famous stunner
for the 1,2,3 one last time. But I’m sure people will understand if we’ve seen
he last we will see of him in terms of wrestling. I can imagine it would be
quite challenging, mentally, to wrestle again after hearing that a funny fall
or landing could cause permanent disability, even if that was 10-15 years ago.

Say Stone Cold does step up for one more fight though. The
most perfect opponent is obvious, The Rock. The Rock and Austin have a huge
history and great chemistry. With Rock only showing up once or twice a year as
well, this match would be truly special. Rock is also someone Austin knows he
can trust so would minimise the risk a bit less.

Another potential opponent would be Triple H. Austin also
has a huge history with the McMahon family so Austin v HHH would also be a huge
match. The best way to book this feud for me would be to have Austin fight for
Vince McMahon against HHH for control of the company. The match would generate
a huge buzz and seeing McMahon and Austin team up for once would be a pleasant
surprise.

Whether Austin, or anyone else on the list make a return is
unknown, but the possibility is certainly there. There’s also the possibility
of a lot more former superstars making a return, but the above 5 are the ones I
personally would love to see back in action one more time. Let me know if

there’s anyone I missed that you would love to see back in action.
