Despite all the buzz around WWE crossing over with TNA Wrestling as of late, this week’s episode of NXT also had some chatter around AEW, particularly with a new scoop about someone backstage at the show.
On the actual episode itself (NXT results here), there was a segment where Cody Rhodes was backstage talking to Shawn Spears, who voiced his plans to follow in The American Nightmare’s lead of winning the Royal Rumble and becoming a champion, by winning next week’s 25-man battle royal. Ethan Page followed suit, calling out Cody for not wishing him luck as well, and Lexis King hyped himself up as the actual eventual winner. Cody’s response was a brief “It seems like you guys are in a good place” before he left.
However, it seems that wasn’t the only story.
As reported by Fightful Select, All Elite Wrestling’s Rebel was backstage at the TV tapings, although the details of what she did and why she was there are still unknown. It is said that she’s “personally connected” to someone who works on the NXT brand.
It’s important to note that Rebel is still listed on AEW’s roster page, which recently saw some changes with the removals of Arn Anderson, Jake Hager, Mark Henry and Paige VanZant. Rebel hasn’t appeared on screen since 2022 and maintains her overall career record of just 1-10, mostly having been a manager and valet accompanying Dr. Britt Baker to the ring. She was originally hired in a backstage role for cosmetology, responsible for the hair and makeup of the women’s division. Whether she retains that role or things have changed is also unknown.
Could this be a sign she is also making her exit from AEW? Or is this just a case of someone visiting friends and nothing more to it? As always, keep your eyes peeled, and check back for more updates when they come.
