AEW’s Latest Signing Speculation & Monday Morning Q&A

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) Tony Khan announced that AEW has a new signing and The Forbidden Door will be closed on that person’s former company. Who do you think this is?

For this person to come in as a big deal and be entered into the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match, I think it can’t be someone on the smaller side. IE, this isn’t a Jake Atlas or Tony Nese. I’m imagining it pretty much has to be either Keith Lee, Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe or Johnny Gargano.

Among those, I’m leaning more toward Lee. If it isn’t him, it’s Gargano. Hardy is someone I’d imagine they’ll bring in through another method and not put him straight in a random ladder match. Joe is someone I don’t think would be wrestling a ladder match, either. But while Lee is less of a ladder match guy than Gargano, more talk has been around Lee lately.

AEW would benefit from signing all these guys, so no matter who it is, if it’s one of those, I’m down for it.

2) Kurt Angle said there was a pitch for a 3-week program involving him that would lead to WrestleMania, but it was dropped. What do you think that might have been?

There are two ideas I think could have been pitched.

First is something revolving around Alpha Academy. Chad Gable has been very much into a comedic heel Angle type gimmick lately. I could see WWE pitching Angle coming in and putting them over in some fashion.

I’m still skeptical about Gable Steveson, though. There’s such a big feeling in my gut that Steveson is going to do something at WrestleMania and possibly even face Bobby Lashley. I think it could have been pitched that Angle would be the guy to formally introduce Steveson into WWE and to coincide with the Olympic background and be in his corner to offset MVP.

3) Blair Davenport suffered an injury during her Japanese Street Fight against Meiko Satomura. What is next for the NXT UK Women’s Championship?

Hopefully, Davenport is able to return in enough time that if she was planned to win the belt, she can still do it without it feeling like it will take forever to get there. Kay Lee Ray should have dropped it far sooner than she did, and I don’t think Satomura should hold this belt for a year or anything.

The downside, though, is that Davenport was the only person who made any sense right now. Emilia McKenzie has the potential to be the student who overcomes the teacher, but WWE has done NOTHING to head in that direction. To properly set that up, they’ll have to basically start back at square one again. The amount of time to build to that might be the same as it would be for Davenport to return from her in jury, even.

But I think that might be the best course of action. Have Satomura beat everyone on the roster while setting up McKenzie. Eventually, do the McKenzie match and if Davenport isn’t ready to go, have McKenzie win the belt and Davenport can be the one who beats her. If not, and Davenport can return, have McKenzie come up short, Davenport can come back and beat Meiko, and McKenzie can eventually take the belt off Davenport.

4) Tommaso Ciampa, Roderick Strong, LA Knight, Pete Dunne, Io Shirai and Raquel Gonzalez have all wrestled dark matches recently. Do you think any are on their way up to Raw or SmackDown soon?

All of them, I think, are on their way up after WrestleMania, except Roderick Strong. My gut tells me Strong is leaving WWE post-Mania when they have the next set of releases. They’ll say that they weren’t impressed enough with his dark match tryout and that he’s too old and too small and blah blah blah.

Ciampa, Knight and Dunne have to be in a better spot. Particularly, Knight. There were rumors that he was being looked at highly and I can see why.

Shirai and Gonzalez are locks. In particular, Gonzalez must be going to the main roster after the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic wraps up. They might keep her just a little while longer to get past Mania season and then have this influx of NXT talent, but those two have nothing at all to do anymore on NXT and are more than ready to move up to Raw or SmackDown. I also think Dakota Kai will, but that remains to be seen.

5) Bryan Danielson wants to form a tag team with Jon Moxley. Pick. Do you want a feud or a team?

Give me a team. I’m genuinely curious where this would go. The feud would be good, of course, and I have no doubts the match would be awesome, but we know that. What we don’t know is what direction a Moxley/Danielson tag team could head and how their dynamic as partners would work.

Plus, if the team doesn’t click, you can divert and go into a feud, right?
