WrestleMania 36 is just a few short weeks away. While many fans are dissatisfied with the card, a few matches shine through and promise to be spectacular no matter what. One of those matches seems to be John Cena vs “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Their WrestleMania rematch is riding on years’ worth of storytelling and the star power between the two superstars can not be understated. Only one man can walk out victorious and the winner must be Bray Wyatt.
There are a few key reasons why Wyatt must win and the first one is his prior booking. The Fiend was booked so well and so strongly that it shocked me when he lost the title to Goldberg. I know Goldberg is a legend, but I thought the WWE would use Wyatt defeating Goldberg as just one more star to add to his list and make him look that much more legitimate. Unfortunately, Wyatt lost the title to Goldberg and in many people’s eyes, lost a lot of credibility.
Bray Wyatt must win his match against Cena at WrestleMania this time around because he needs to prove that his loss to Goldberg was a fluke and he is still the monstrous Fiend we all have come to know over the last year. A win over Cena at The Show of Shows would put Wyatt back on the map and possibly back in the hunt for the world title.
Secondly, Bray Wyatt lost to John Cena in their last WrestleMania match. At WrestleMania 30, an eerily similar situation to what is happening right now occurred when the red-hot Bray Wyatt lost to Cena. Wyatt cites that loss as the beginning of the downward spiral of his career. After this, the Wyatt family broke up, got back together, and broke up again, Bray lost to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31, and then after a few years of floating, he was off TV getting repackaged. The silver lining to his repackaging was that he emerged as The Fiend. WWE has the opportunity to right their wrongs and use The Fiend the right way.
Lastly, the fact that Cena returned on SmackDown to announce that he would not have a WrestleMania match so that he could give his spot to a younger rising star, and then accepted a challenge from The Fiend two minutes later, devalue Cena’s claims. The Fiend must be the one who walks out victorious. A win for him could mean finding himself back up on top of the SmackDown mountain, but a loss could damage his career in the same ways we saw last time, and would devalue the credibility of The Fiend to a point of no return.
