Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
Yesterday, I asked what you had in mind for how All Elite Wrestling could improve in 2025 with some AEW New Year’s Resolutions. Today, we’re shifting focus to World Wrestling Entertainment for the same thing to ponder.
My question for you today is “What resolutions should WWE have for 2025?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
I’ll limit myself to mainly three things again, so as to not get too rambly and make this too long of a post. But that’s also because I primarily have 3 things in mind, too.
First off, I wish WWE would cool it with the “you can only win the title if you’ve already previously lost in your first attempt” strategy. It is happening far too often, to the point it is spoiling the results. For instance, obviously, Eddy Thorpe was added to the NXT Championship match so Trick Williams could retain without pinning Oba Femi, who will beat Williams on the rematch that happens after Femi claims he didn’t properly lose. Any repetitive booking decision becomes problematic, and when it comes to titles, that’s even more of an issue. That’s why I know Giulia will likely beat Roxanne Perez, because she already lost the first time. Gunther beating Damian Priest was one of the examples of that not happening, but War Raiders, Cody Rhodes, Bron Breaker, so on and so forth? Too many times. Learn a new trick.
Second, you’ve got to strike a healthy balance between these advertisement revenue streams and the overbearing nature they’ve become. I get that you’re a company seeking to make as much profit as possible, but it’s absurd at this point to have a 60 to 120 minute pre-show for an event where you do nothing but talk and promote stuff, ads during the shows, ad reads during matches, stuff on the ring itself and the turnbuckle pads, the LED boards on the ring posts and apron and security barricades and so on and so forth. And all of that just to only have 5 matches on a pay-per-view? Cool it down. It’s excessive and no one likes it. Find more subtle ways to make that same money.
Lastly, we’re years past the point of needing better entrance music. When CFO$ looks great in retrospect, you know you’ve continually downgraded. It’s gotten to the point where well over half the roster has unrecognizable tracks and it kills their entrances. Watch how poorly the Royal Rumble spots play out again this year and you’ll see how people don’t react until they see someone’s name on the screen. And no, the answer wasn’t to have everyone start off their track by just monotonely saying their name or something along those lines.
Some of that works, like Chelsea Green’s theme, but I couldn’t for the life of me hum Bayley’s or tell you any of the lyrics to AJ Styles’ theme. Why revert Sheamus back to his old lobster head theme only to change it again to something even worse than he had been using over the years?
You can’t hit a perfect track every time. That’s an unreasonable expectation. Not everyone will get a glass break to be iconic like Stone Cold Steve Austin or a sweet guitar riff like Bret Hart. But I shouldn’t be able to play half or more of the themes in the company today and have no clue if the person coming out is Apollo Crews, Javier Bernal, or Izzi Dame.
