Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Tonight will be another pseudo-pay-per-view edition of AEW Dynamite (as well as AEW Collision being taped) with Grand Slam 2024 set to feature some major matches that have all the potential to be game-changers for All Elite Wrestling.

My question for you today is a very simple round of “What are your predictions for AEW Grand Slam?”

I’ll be putting all the matches on the card in my response below for your easy reference. Remember to answer with your replies in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Young Bucks vs. Kyle Fletcher & Will Ospreay

This match will be a lot of fun. I don’t think there’s much of a chance the titles change hands, but it’s possible. My guess is either Don Callis will ruin things for them (either on purpose or inadvertently) or Kazuchika Okada will interfere and lead to the finish, possibly with Konosuke Takeshita also getting involved and unknowingly causing a distraction. I don’t think Takeshita will knowingly screw over Fletcher and Ospreay, despite the tension there, nor do I think this will have anything to do with Ricochet.

AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Mariah May (c) vs. Yuka Sakazaki

Obviously, May retains. I don’t even know why Sakazaki is suddenly just getting a title shot after wrestling 5 times on AEW/ROH television this entire year, with 3 of those happening in April. This title reign for May has been such a bust and a massively transparent example of not prioritizing this title while Mercedes Mone holds the TBS Championship. Should’ve just given the women’s world title to her instead.

FTW Rules Match for the FTW Championship: HOOK (c) vs. Roderick Strong

HOOK just won this title back. It’s too early for him to drop it again. Strong puts up a fight, but loses.

Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness

I do think this match happens, but it might not be the super long banger definitive match that would end either of their careers. It’s odd how they’ve gone about doing this, in more ways than one. Danielson can’t compete, but he’s able to compete, so let’s put out this match, which he hasn’t officially signed on for, so either he does it and it seems odd that everything changed and it was lingering, or he doesn’t, and it’s just a means to upset people? Huh? I’m glad they’re most likely going to have a match, though. If it doesn’t happen here, it should happen elsewhere, at least.

AEW World Championship Title Shot: Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley

I’m not as sold on this being a guaranteed win for Moxley as I thought I would be. However, I do think the momentum is on his side. What’s strange is that with WrestleDream coming up, either it is the two Washington boys with Allin against Danielson, or it specifically isn’t so that Moxley can get a lot of heat and possibly even beat Danielson. Maybe Allin is the one to beat Moxley, rather than the one who takes out Danielson. It sounds like a cop out to say “it’ll be obvious in retrospect why they did what they’ll do” as no shit, but I do think this is something they’ve navigated this odd change around for a specific reason, and not just because of something random.

Right now, as of typing this at around 1am, I’m going with Moxley winning this.

Open Challenge Trios Match for the AEW World Trios Championship: Blackpool Combat Club (c) vs. ???

Whoever challenges for these titles is unlikely to win them. Granted, it’s a possibility. Maybe Wheeler Yuta is so conflicted and confused that he costs BCC the match and gets beaten up after. I’ve already pitched that my preferred option would be for Pac and Claudio Castagnoli to retain here AND excommunicate Yuta from the group, before shopping around for his replacement as the third member of their championship team, but that’s just my pitch, not my prediction.

I’m guessing this is a team like Top Flight and they just lose and get crapped on while the story of “what will Yuta do?” continues lingering, rather than it being solved here. That is especially true if it ends up being a match taped for Collision, as it still hasn’t been confirmed which night this will be on.

Open Challenge Singles Match for the AEW TNT Championship: Jack Perry (c) vs. ???

No matter who Jack Perry fights here, he’ll retain the title. I can’t see any reason why he should drop it, particularly to someone who isn’t being advertised. If it were some massive surprise, then that’s a possibility, but I don’t think it will be anything especially huge. MAYBE it is a returning Kenny Omega, in which case, the title could change hands, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

Lumberjack Strap Match: Jeff Jarrett vs. “Hangman” Adam Page

Older talent in 90% of the situations need to put over the younger guys. Page needs to win this.

Saraya’s Rules Match: Jamie Hayter vs. Saraya

Despite all the rules favoring her, Saraya obviously comes up short. Hayter will be built up to be the next big challenger for Mariah May’s women’s world title.

AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Sammy Guevara

Okada has been protected so much that I’m fully confident he’ll beat Guevara. This match has a lot of potential to steal the show, so I’m excited to see it. It’s a shame Guevara hasn’t had a better run and continues to suffer various setbacks. If he’s lucky enough to win this, he won’t win the match when the title is on the line, at least.

Tornado Trios Match: The Conglomeration vs. The Learning Tree

This feud should just be over already. The Conglomeration either wins to put Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith packing for good, or The Learning Tree wins and therefore, feels like they have a moral victory and can move on. Frankly, I don’t really care which outcome happens. I just want to see all parties doing something else. Orange Cassidy shouldn’t be feuding over the jacket he destroyed 4 years ago randomly. Let’s see either of these teams fighting for the trios titles.

Three-Way Match: The Beast Mortos vs. Dralistico vs. Hologram

The Beast Mortos wins. He pins Dralistico. Hologram is there for some cool flippy stuff. Nuff said.
