AEW Grand Slam Mexico Or WWE/AAA Worlds Collide – Which Was Better? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

In the span of just over a week and a half, WWE partnered with AAA to put on Worlds Collide 2025 and AEW partnered with CMLL for Grand Slam: Mexico. One was a non-PPV special event, while the other was an elongated special episode of Dynamite. They featured around the same amount of time and matches, some cross-promotional fights, and overall positive reactions from the viewers.

My question for you today is “Which of the two shows did you enjoy more? Which one was better?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think it’s going to be highly contested for me to say Grand Slam had the better matches and was overall more entertaining, while Worlds Collide felt like it was a bigger deal for the Mexican promotion partnership.

By that, I mean I got the impression that Worlds Collide felt like an important show in theory because it was the first chance for AAA to be showcased within this new partnership, and we’ve got people talking about Mr. Iguana when someone like myself didn’t even know he existed prior to that event. CMLL, in comparison, doesn’t strike me as getting a whole lot out of this episode of Dynamite for the promotion itself making any kind of movement.

But as a fan, does that matter to me? Not particularly. I don’t judge my entertainment based on how financially successful it is. Avatar has technically made more money at the box office than Avengers: Endgame, but I’ve seen the latter multiple times and the former once and never plan on watching it again. In wrestling, just like anywhere else, I couldn’t care less if there’s lots of handshaking and pictures being taken about a great partnership for the future, as I want to see the result of those things.

Worlds Collide wasn’t a bad show, but if I were to tell someone to watch 2-3 hours of professional wrestling matches, I’d point them more toward Grand Slam instead. The in-ring action was just overall at a higher caliber.

Now, that’s not to say I was on the edge of my seat the whole time watching Dynamite. Far from it. I actually dozed off. But that’s because I’m admittedly more of a fan of “sports entertainment” than I am “pure in-ring maneuvers wrestling matches” presentations. I always mention that I’d like to see a better balance like the black and gold era of NXT, as I think WWE has far too much fluff and filler nonsense, but AEW shows numb my brain after a while because I feel like I’m watching the same match on repeat for 2-8 hours at a time. Eventually, with both companies, I reach a point where I wish the show were just an hour long and I could go off to do something else.

But again, this question is which show I thought was better. I think if I were to sit a casual down and have them watch both of them, they’d end up coming out of the experience saying they enjoyed the matches from AEW more, and I would have to agree with them. Plus, with Mercedes Mone winning the CMLL World Women’s Championship, that felt like a bigger deal of something tangibly happening in comparison to Worlds Collide featuring no title changes.

Both companies should experiment more with this sort of cross-promotional programming. I’ve been enjoying NXT and TNA blending together, and I can’t see any negatives coming out of it. AAA wins, WWE wins, CMLL wins, and AEW wins. Thumbs up all around.
