Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
With the card for AEW Full Gear 2024 already stacked and only room for something to be added to the Zero Hour, yet nothing new announced for even the pre-show, it seems there is a good chance this is the final lineup for the event.
Obviously, not everyone can participate in every show. But sometimes, there are standout omissions that make us question why someone was left on the sidelines.
My question for you today is “Who do you feel is the most surprising omission from the card or the person you think should have been booked, but is sitting this show out?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
I would have said Chris Jericho if they didn’t announce that he would face Tomohiro Ishii on next week’s Dynamite. The same goes for Kazuchika Okada, but the focal point for him has been that the Continental Classic will begin next week.
Some people like Adam Cole, even though they aren’t wrestling, I’m picturing they’ll still show up in some capacity, so I don’t count them. That extends to the rest of The Don Callis Family, so there goes Konosuke Takeshita from my list, too. When you apply that to the rest of the Death Riders and so on, it just leaves me with one major name missing from this card: Christian Cage.
He’s been so consistently great for so many months, but I guess this feud with Hook just isn’t picking up the steam necessary to be on the card or featured as prominently over the course of Dynamite, at least. I’ll admit, I’ve been MIA for a bit due to a lot of other stuff going on that demands my attention, but I don’t see much chatter about this in the overall picture, which is odd to me.
Another name I was thinking of picking was Ricochet, but I feel like he’s being protected in a way and there isn’t anyone who stands out for him to fight (and beat) just for the sake of it. There still stands a chance he’s thrown into the mix in a random match against someone picked from a hat like Dralistico or Action Andretti or whoever, or that he’s put in a decent spot next Wednesday to kick off the Continental Classic instead, though.
Rounding out my top 3 (if you don’t count Hook in there with Cage) I would also throw out Darby Allin’s name, but his match with Claudio Castagnoli on Dynamite strikes me as Tony Khan’s method of circumventing that.
