The inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament comes to a close tonight as Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria will fight it out to determine who has the prestigious honor of becoming the first-ever women’s IC champion.
Regardless of who you might have been rooting for from the start of this (I was personally hoping Natalya would win), the choices are down to these two, barring some kind of screwball scenario where someone gets replaced.
My question for you today is “Between Valkyria and Kai, who do you want to win this title and why?”

As far as my answer…
Between the two, Valkyria has already had a significant singles title as the NXT women’s champion. Considering I don’t feel too strongly about either of these options becoming champion, that’s all the more reason why I default to booking someone entirely for behind the scenes reasons. Knowing that WWE is far more likely to push Valkyria into a prominent spot in the coming year or so, compared to Kai—who has been there long enough to have reached that level, but NEVER has been remotely in contention—I see no need to give this to Lyra.
Kai hasn’t even had solid reigns with the women’s tag titles. It’s like she’s allergic to gold, as every time she won one of those, she’d either lose it outright or vacate it almost immediately. I feel bad for the girl, particularly after all of her injuries. There may not be another chance for her to win another singles title, if we’re being honest. Just give her this belt, considering there’s nothing at all going on right now that dictates Lyra needs to be champion, and even if that is the case, it’s not like she can’t win the title soon enough.
I’m getting ahead of the planning, I’m sure, as I highly doubt WWE has the lineup for WrestleMania 41 already sorted out and that it includes this title in anything other than “and we’ll figure that out later”, but if I’m peeking at my crystal ball, I’m saying there’s no way WWE ends up putting five or six women’s matches on the card. There are two women’s world title matches to take care of, two women’s midcard titles, the tag team titles, and unless they’re involved in the latter, Bianca Belair vs. Jade Cargill or something along those lines. There’s no way there isn’t at least one multi-woman match among those five or six matches. So if that happens to be for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, if both Dakota and Lyra are in this match, then it doesn’t matter who is walking in as champion…so, again, just give it to Dakota so she can check this off her career list.
Plus, I think there’s something more to be done with the potential of breaking up Damage CTRL and doing a Triple Threat or Fatal 4-Way over this title, rather than Valkyria just defending it against any of her potential challengers like Ivy Nile and Pure Fusion Collective. All of them can either be paired up in another multi-team women’s tag title match, or they could always just do that Chyna Memorial Battle Royal I’m always pitching, or just flat out not everyone makes the card. But right now, I can’t think of any match for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship that would be more interesting or more worthy of actually being on the WrestleMania card than Dakota Kai versus Kairi Sane versus Iyo Sky versus hopefully Asuka.
