Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

AEW WrestleDream 2024 went down last night, with its usual fair share of noteworthy moments and matches to talk about. To some, it was perfect through and through. Others will have things they didn’t enjoy quite as much, and everyone’s mileage may vary as to what were the best and worst parts of the show.

My question for you today is “What do you personally consider to be the highlights and low points of AEW WrestleDream 2024?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Starting off with the bad, I thankfully don’t think there is much that can be put in this category. I actually wouldn’t say anything was bad necessarily, but there were a few things that I wouldn’t rank as high as the others, or I felt were pretty inconsequential or meaningless.

For instance, I don’t see much value to Anna Jay versus Harley Cameron being on this card other than to fill some quota of women’s matches and simply deciding not to book Mercedes Moné. Having her in a backstage segment to set up a match for later? Meh. Not my favorite thing.

The Swerve Strickland segment didn’t need to be on this card. He should’ve been wrestling instead. For there to not be a reveal of someone like Bobby Lashley made the whole thing fall flat. All that hubbub just for Swerve to say “no thanks” and that’s it? Boooooo.

The rest of the negatives are mostly nitpicking, though. The same would be if I said something like how Hologram vs. The Beast Mortos felt more like it would have fit on a television episode, or how I don’t see much of a point for the Mark Briscoe and Chris Jericho feud to have happened just to lead to this. These segments and a few others weren’t bad, but were just sort of there for me without any real reactions or energy to them, even if the matches themselves were decent. To use my usual food analogies, at a buffet, they’d be things that I would skip over in favor of filling up on the more interesting and exotic stuff to try or the things that just taste better. Give me the crab legs, not the white rice.

But as far as highlights go, I think there were more than a handful.

In sequential order, I’d give a shout out to the rapid fire content following the TNT Championship as a big nod first. Jack Perry and Katsuyori Shibata did not feel to me like it was going to be a setup for Daniel Garcia to come out, be followed by MJF, and then, Adam Cole. I’m curious to see if the whole Undisputed Kingdom turns babyface off the back of this, and it’s good to see these guys back.

My favorite match of the night was probably the three-way for the AEW International Championship. Ricochet, Will Ospreay, and Konosuke Takeshita were easy people to bet on having a great performance, and they followed through. I dig the betrayal from Kyle Fletcher, and I like that Takeshita finally has a championship.

Even though I had him down as my prediction, I was still surprised that Jon Moxley won the title from Bryan Danielson. Part of me did just think that I was going to be wrong about picking him. The post-match angle with Wheeler Yuta turning and all the babyfaces trying to help, only for Danielson to get his neck jacked up with the chair, was an intriguing way to end the show that will get people wanting to tune in on Wednesday night, for sure.

All in all, I’m interested to see what happens with some of these storylines, and I thought the in-ring action was good. I still wish these were cheaper and shorter, but this was a thumbs up pay-per-view.
