New NXT Logo Thoughts? Matches Added for All Out? & Monday Morning Q&A

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) These are the go-home episodes of AEW heading into All Out. Which matches are you hoping will be announced this week and added to the card for Sunday’s pay-per-view?

The lineup is already getting stacked, but we have a few stars missing that I’d like to see incorporated in some fashion.

In particular, Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black in some sort of gimmick match and Brian Cage vs. Ricky Starks for the FTW Championship make sense to me. It’d be a shame if Jurassic Express, Dark Order, Best Friends, and a few others couldn’t make the card, but not everyone can have a spot.

I’d bump the Miro vs. Eddie Kingston match to the Buy In and allow for room for one of those other two matches. I’d also make sure Paul Wight vs. QT Marshall was short so there’s enough time for the other.

2) What are your thoughts on the new NXT logo?

I hate it. Not only do I think the actual design of the logo itself is uninspired and the most generic looking baseline thing anyone could have gone with, but I think the paint splatter tie dye effect is 1) too reminiscent of Dynamite, 2) trying too hard to be the total opposite of what NXT was before as if to say the problem with the ratings was the logo, 3) doesn’t at all make me think “this is a professional wrestling show” and evokes more of a Nickelodeon motif, and 4) defies how this is the black and gold brand.

3) Happy Corbin. Love it? Hate it? Have no opinion?

The name itself, I hate. I’m also admittedly not a fan of how the “down on his luck” character is already over, as I was enjoying that. However, Baron Corbin is someone who I think is perpetually underrated and consistently entertaining and I think he’s pulling this off, somehow, too.

This isn’t the most dynamic character we’ve ever seen. There have been plenty rich jerk characters, from Ted DiBiase to JBL. Having him say he’s so happy that he should go by that nickname going forward sounds like a really terrible idea and I don’t know why that was pitched, let alone accepted and moving forward. But if anyone’s going to turn it into something worth booing, I think Corbin’s the right guy for the job.

4) Did you check out NWA Empowerrr? If so, what was your favorite part of the event? If not, why did you choose not to see it?

I did see the majority of it, even though I couldn’t pay 100% full attention to it the whole time. Frankly, the card wasn’t all that interesting to me and I only watched it out of curiosity more than out of actually being interested in any of the matches.

Probably my favorite part of the whole thing was Awesome Kong showing up to say that she would be retiring and wanted to go out with something related to Gail Kim. That was a sweet moment and since Kong can’t have a proper retirement match of any sort, seemingly, having this at this show with a more historic feel to it seems like a good enough way to go (at least from my perspective, and clearly, from her POV, too).

5) Karrion Kross traded Scarlett, his entrance and his NXT Championship for a spot on the Raw roster, two losses, and a new outfit that resembles a cross between a gimp mask, a frog-mouth helm and leftovers from Demolition. What the hell is going on? Are you okay with this, a big fan of it, or are you having doubts about The Tollman’s potential future?

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate it. In theory, giving him some kind of gear wouldn’t have been bad. I can understand the philosophy that it makes him look more like a supervillain that could sell toys. But holy hell, why was that the outfit they decided on? Who really likes the straps and keeps trying to make these Mad Max characters a thing?

WWE needs to take another run at this. Treat it like The Viking Experience, where after one week, the lesson was learned and things were tweaked. Make adjustments so that it doesn’t look so cheap and like something an indie guy would do until he could afford something better.

This is the type of thing that is supposed to be cool, but just looks ridiculous and makes people laugh at the product. Basically, it’s like when you see someone on Halloween trying to be the dark and scary characters or they think they’re decked out in some bad ass gladiator outfit when they really look like dorks and people snicker at them.
