Stephanie Vaquer Retained Both Titles, So Now What’s Next? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Much to my surprise, Stephanie Vaquer retained both her NXT Women’s Championship and NXT Women’s North American Championship titles on last night’s episode of NXT. I was fully convinced the double duty title defense concept was WWE’s means of getting the Women’s North American title off her, so that at Stand & Deliver, Vaquer would just be defending one of those belts. Now that that’s not what happened, I’m left wondering what their plans are.

So my question for you today is essentially the same thing I’m pondering: “What do you think WWE has in mind for both of these titles coming up?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Obviously, they keep focusing on Jordynne Grace as a challenger for the NXT Women’s Championship. If they do anything for Stand & Deliver other than Grace in contention for that title against Vaquer, I’ll be shocked.

That doesn’t mean that it stays limited to just those two, though. Jaida Parker could be involved, but I also think she already lost her title shot in a clean match, so there’s no reason for her to still be lingering. Then again, Rhea Ripley lost relatively clean, and she’s still fighting Iyo Sky again for a chance to win back the Women’s World Championship. In that scenario, she was the former champion, so a rematch is implied, whereas Parker was just a challenger who came up short. Still, Parker could be involved, even though I don’t think that will be the case unless they specifically want to avoid putting the belt on Grace, wherein Parker takes the pin from Vaquer a second time.

Curiously, do they just plan on having Vaquer defend both titles on the event again? That’s what I’m starting to think, but that it will be in the reverse from last night.

My guess is Vaquer defends the Women’s North American title in a multi-woman match that features Kelani Jordan, Karmen Petrovic, Lola Vice, Jaida Parker, and/or anyone else that they decide to throw in there. Maybe it’s a ladder match, maybe it isn’t, but I don’t think it’s a one-on-one affair in any fashion.

That happens as the opener, you’ve got Shawn Spears against both Ricky Saints and Ethan Page in a Triple Threat for the men’s North American Championship, whatever Axiom and Nathan Frazer do with the tag titles, I don’t think Lexis King makes it onto the card, and then, I think Vaquer loses the main women’s title to Grace, before moving on to the main event of Oba Femi, Trick Williams, and Je’Von Evans in a three-way for the men’s NXT Championship, which ends with Trick winning the title back by pinning Evans after revealing he’s the leader of Darkstate.

Circling back to the question in hand, I think the rumored visa issues with Giulia are probably correct, and WWE was planning on having Vaquer defend the WNA title while Giulia would face Grace, as hinted by their interactions at times like the Royal Rumble. When they realized they couldn’t do that, they decided instead of rushing the match and putting the belt on Grace with no challenger set up, they’d go with the Giulia/Vaquer match to do that, Vaquer drops the main title, but keeps the North American, and it’s a roundabout means to get to where they were originally going, just with Vaquer stepping in for Giulia (whose reign gets cut short) and checking Vaquer off as a champion anyway.

That’s my prediction until they do or say something that makes me think otherwise, but since I was dead wrong about Vaquer retaining last night, there’s plenty room for error on my part, clearly.
