Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
If you believe some reports, the X Division Championship is going away soon, and TNA Wrestling will debut a new title in its stead at Genesis 2025. Details about this new championship are not yet revealed, and we have to take this with a grain of salt of even being real at all, so we’re left to speculate in what direction this will go, what it will be called, if it will have any different set of rules, what it will look like, and everything else under the sun.
My question for you today is “What would you replace the X Division Championship with, or would you keep it as-is and not retire that title at all?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
TNA has had some pretty meh titles over the years. Why they’d create a Legends Championship, change it to a Global Championship, convert that into the Television Championship, and end that lineage with the King of the Mountain Championship is bonkers as it never should have been a Legends Championship to begin with, let alone go down that whole rabbit hole.
I love the name Grand Championship, but I wouldn’t want them to return to those rules. If they could keep that name and just make it a generic midcard title, that would be my go-to favorite option.
Frankly, I think the X Division Championship doesn’t even need to go away, but it should revert back to being a strict cruiserweight belt. I know, I know, it’s not about weight limits; it’s about no limits. Blegh. But if they just said the weight limits were restored and this could be solely a belt in competition for people like Kushida, then that could work for me.
Otherwise, if they’re going to come up with something totally brand new, I hope it isn’t location-based at all. I’ll cringe if they call it the TNA Intercontinental Championship or the International / National / North American / United States / etc etc etc. Calling something the Global title and the other the World title is so dumb, and I hate that WWE and AEW do that.
I’d go ahead and get rid of the Digital Media Championship as well, while they’re at it. That’s just another Television Championship, and I’ve never liked that, considering these belts are always on television as is.
My vote basically boils down to if they are even doing this at all, which I’m skeptical about, then I’d rather them create a new title that is not named after any locations and does not have any stupid rules attached to it, but can be seen as an obvious midcard belt so that it doesn’t clash with the World Heavyweight Championship in name.
