Who Should Be WWE’s Women’s United States Champion? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

It was announced on Friday Night SmackDown that a new title is up for grabs in the WWE Women’s United States Championship. We’ve talked about this concept before, but a number of months have gone by, the landscape has changed, and we now know this is official. Even though we don’t know who is going to be in contention for it and how it will be crowned, my question for you today is “Who do you think should be the inaugural women’s united states champion and win this belt?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Since this is a SmackDown-exclusive title, and we can assume that applies to women from NXT not being eligible to win it (nor should we expect anyone to be traded from Raw), the roster that we’re working with includes: Bayley, B-Fab, Bianca Belair, Blair Davenport, Candice LeRae, Chelsea Green, Elektra Lopez, Jade Cargill, Michin, Naomi, Nia Jax, Piper Niven, Tiffany Stratton, and the potential of a return from someone like Alexa Bliss or Charlotte Flair, if we want to stretch the list out.

Already, I’d rule out a few of those names. B-Fab and Elektra Lopez don’t wrestle. Nia Jax is already the women’s champion. Tiffany Stratton already holds Money in the Bank. Candice LeRae has the Women’s Speed Championship and they don’t even want her to wear it on television, strangely. Nearly half the field is already gone.

Based on pure momentum alone combined with having bigger fish to fry who will do a better job making a name for this title, I’d eliminate Blair Davenport and Piper Niven, too.

That narrows this down to just Bayley, Bianca Belair, Chelsea Green, Jade Cargill, Michin, and Naomi.

Having just seen her run as women’s champion, I don’t think Bayley should win this. Eventually, she can win it, but not now.

Belair and Cargill would make great champions, but they’re also holding the women’s tag titles. Unless the game plan is to have one of them win it, they lose the tag titles and start to feud with one another over the singles title, and that’s what we get for WrestleMania 41, I could see that disqualifying them. After all, one of them could win the title from someone else on this list. We’ll come back to that.

Michin and Naomi are two that I think fit the same bill. Both aren’t going to win the primary women’s title any time soon or possibly ever more going forward. I could see Michin being given this based on her recent push, but I could also see her just being a stepping stone. Naomi might get it to appease bringing her back and how she’s a former proper women’s champion, which helps set a baseline of prestige for this title.

But I would go with Chelsea Green. She’s got a fun character, but not one that will likely net her a WWE Women’s Championship or Women’s World Championship in the future. There’s only so much she can do as part of a tag team, and I’d like to see her have a single’s run.

My map would probably be one of two things. Either Green wins the title, feuds with maybe Bayley or Naomi and beats them, drops the title to a heel Jade around Royal Rumble time and we get Belair earning a title shot to beat Jade and keep her winning streak alive, or option B, which would be that Green wins the title, there’s a multi-woman match for the belt at Mania which includes that top 6 of Belair, Cargill, Green, Bayley, Michin and Naomi. Belair wins, keeps her Mania streak in tact, and then feuds with Cargill, who beats her for the belt.

I’d probably be fine with any of the top 6 winning, overall, and hopefully, the Mania match that comes out of it will be good as well.
