AEW Double or Nothing 2022

AEW Double or Nothing 2022

Date:
May 29, 2022
Location:
T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada

Highlights:

  • In the main event, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page wrestled with the temptation of using the AEW World title belt on CM Punk while the referee was knocked down. He decided not to go that route, but was then defeated by the Go 2 Sleep.
  • Anarchy In The Arena was a bloody, violent, and chaotic affair, as both teams fought across the arena and backstage. Jon Moxley’s entrance theme kept on playing through the first third of the match, until Chris Jericho found and killed the soundboard. Hager & Jericho won for their team by putting Danielson in the Walls of Jericho and choking him with a cable til he passed out.
  • In the days leading up to the event, it was reported that MJF had not attended fanfest, and the company could not reach him. He was in good health, but the reasons behind his absence remained a mystery. Reports said that MJF was scheduled to jump on a plane and not attend the PPV to wrestle Wardlow. MJF showed up just before the event and wrestled Wardlow in the opening match in a one-sided contest, where he took 10 powerbombs. Shawn Spears was not present to help him out. Tony Khan refused to comment on the situation during the post-show media scrum.
  • In the Mixed Trios match, Men Of The Year & Paige VanZant had placed a stipulation on it, which means that neither Sammy Guevara or Frankie Kazarian can challenge for the TNT Championship while Scorpio Sky holds it.
  • Adam Cole had an assist from Bobby Fish to defeat Samoa Joe to become the first man to win the Owen Hart Cup. Britt Baker defeated Ruby Soho (they both got special entrances, including Rancid playing ‘Ruby Soho’) clean to become the first woman to win the Owen Hart Cup. Martha Hart presented them with a custom championship, said they would have their names engraved on the cup, and talked for a few minutes about late husband Owen Hart.
  • After Jade Cargill retained her TBS Championship against Anna Jay, Stokely Hathaway (fka Malcolm Bivens of NXT) debuted as her new manager, replacing ‘Smart’ Mark Sterling. Just after that, Athena (fka Ember Moon in WWE) made her debut and come to the aid of Kris Statlander and Anna Jay against The Baddies.
  • The Hardys won their first AEW PPV match against The Young Bucks with a Swanton Bomb. Despite this, Jeff Hardy seemed slow and struggled to hit his moves.
  • Andrade El Idolo introduced a new business partner in Rush, who is a former ROH World Champion.
  • At the end of an exciting trios match between the House of Black and Death Triangle, the arena went dark. When the lights came back on, Julia Hart spat mist in to Pac’s face. She has officially joined the House of Black.
