UPDATE: eWrestlingNews.com writer Matt Boone has written a great piece about WWE possibly unifying their WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship into a single title. To read the eWrestlingNews.com editorial “Should WWE Unify Their World Championships?” click here.
According to WWE sources, there has been talk in WWE of having a WWE Champion vs. World Heavyweight champion match at WrestleMania XXX. It’s unknown if this would be a unification match or just a special attraction match. The ladder is more likely as they want to have a title for each brand – RAW and SmackDown
Since John Cena returned at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, WWE has been pushing to bring back prestige to the World Title. Even though John Cena and Randy Orton have had long feuds in the past, they never fought in a singles match at WrestleMania (although they did face Triple H in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 24). With Orton now being called the new “Face of WWE” by Triple H and the Authority, a match against Cena would have a built-in storyline.
CM Punk is another top babyface being considered for a shot at the WWE title in April.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
