AEW’s roster is reported to be sympathetic for MJF whose return to programming has been overshadowed.
MJF returned at last weekend’s All Out Pay Per View, competing under a mask in the Casino Ladder match.
After winning the match and earning an AEW World Championship match, MJF unmasked after the main event saw CM Punk regain the AEW Title.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reports that many in AEW feel bad for MJF who was referenced during Punk’s post-All Out comments.
“There is some sympathy as it relates to MJF’s return for some, but everyone was generally left in the dark regarding MJF’s status for months and said it mirrored that of Punk winning the title in Vegas, and Wardlow beating him, but everyone speaking about MJF.
“Those we spoke to had not heard of any heat between MJF and Punk prior to Punk basically mentioning MJF as one of the stubborn kids he had to work with.”
Punk’s fiery comments would be followed by a backstage fight between Punk and trainer Ace Steel against Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks.
In addition to sympathy for MJF, many wrestlers expect AEW to fire Punk for what happened.
