New Year’s Day is as good a day as any to make some changes, and it seems Adam Copeland and All Elite Wrestling have decided to tweak his in-ring name as of the January 1, 2025 edition of AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen.

As he was introduced during his entrance alongside FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, Adam Copeland was referred to both by ring announcer Justin Roberts and on the lower-third graphic as “The Rated-R Superstar Cope” rather than Adam Copeland.

Excalibur made a point to clarify this even more, saying he’s gone by numerous names over the years (most obviously “Edge” in WWE, which he does not have the rights to and cannot use in AEW), and he’s just shortening it down to Cope going forward.

Writer’s POV: Personally, I’m not a fan of this at all. Obviously, I’d rather him just be able to be Edge, but I understand why WWE isn’t giving up that trademark. Even still, “Cope” may be a nickname he goes by and he might love it, but as a fan, I think it sounds about as ridiculous as when Austin Theory just became “Theory” for a while. Considering the definition of “cope” as well, this opens him up to plenty jokes about how he needs to cope with a loss or what have you. Most people won’t care, as fans will internally refer to him as Edge or whatever they want to, but that’s just my opinion. Tell us yours in the comments below!
