AEW Denies Pulling Plug On Willie Mack’s GCW Appearances

There has been a new development in the ongoing saga between AEW and GCW.

Recently, a rumor surfaced indicating that AEW had withdrawn wrestler Willie Mack from his GCW commitments for the weekend.

When the report emerged, GCW and its owner, Brett Lauderdale, believed that Mack had been removed due to EFFY’s recent remarks.

Fightful Select is reporting that GCW was informed that AR Fox had been advised not to appear on camera during his visit to GCW this weekend. Several individuals within AEW denied that they removed Mack from the events. However, an anonymous source claimed that AEW talent relations encouraged Mack not to take the GCW bookings.

Dave Meltzer also discussed the matter on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. He reported that Mack initially reached out to GCW, stating that AEW removed him from the show due to EFFY’s comments. Lauderdale later contacted AEW’s Sonjay Dutt, who is involved in talent relations, to inquire if that information was accurate. Dutt reportedly refuted the claim.

Lauderdale subsequently contacted Mack for clarification, and the wrestler indicated that he had not been actually pulled. However, AEW’s Christopher Daniels allegedly told Mack that he should refrain from attending this weekend’s GCW events.

Thus, AEW asserts that they did not pull Mack from the shows.

Mack reportedly called AEW to ask if attending the events would be an issue, and AEW granted Mack the go-ahead. Whether Mack faced any pressure or chose not to participate in the shows independently remains unclear.

Willie Mack was initially slated to compete against Sidney Akeem at this weekend’s GCW Highest in the Room 3 event scheduled for Saturday, December 14.
