The AEW World Championship has changed hands thrice in 2024, with Swerve Strickland, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley each claiming it.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that although it was rumored that Darby Allin would receive a World Title run, that was never part of AEW’s plan for this year.

According to the report, the sequence from Strickland to Danielson and then to a heel Moxley was always planned.

These plans were established before Moxley regained the IWGP World Title in April. The only individuals who were meant to be aware of this were AEW President Tony Khan, Moxley, Danielson, and Allin.

Danielson was initially reluctant to become champion and required Khan’s persuasion. The AEW President believed that having Danielson win the title would create the most memorable moment at AEW All In London 2024.

Danielson chose WrestleDream 2024 as his final event, although the date wasn’t consistently determined. He always planned to lose the AEW World Title to Moxley.

And finally, the revamped version of the Blackpool Combat Club was Moxley’s concept.
