Sting wrestled the final match of his career this past Sunday at AEW Revolution 2024.
The Icon successfully defended the AEW Tag Team Titles with Darby Allin against The Young Bucks in the main event of the show.
As you’d expect, Darby Allin had to get stitches following his broken glass spot at Sunday’s pay-per-view event. The former TNT Champion’s Mount Everest climb is still scheduled for March 27.
Sports Illustrated is reporting that Sting was unwilling to go over for the finish as he wanted to award the victory to The Young Bucks, whom he holds in high regard.
However, everyone involved in the match, along with AEW President Tony Khan, were adamant that Sting must win his final match. Moreover, The Young Bucks themselves firmly believed that Sting should end his career with a win.
Additionally, AEW had a Plan B finish ready to be executed following Darby’s dangerous glass spot. The medical personnel were reportedly close by in anticipation of the spot and on high alert.
Had Allin been unable to continue, The Young Bucks were prepared to call an alternate finish to the match.
Darby’s spot was rehearsed earlier in the day than usual, and safety measures were used once it was decided that Allin could make the jump.
A stunt coordinator reportedly instructed how to place the foreign objects and reviewed the proper protocols.
Ultimately, things went as planned and Darby executed the glass spot smoothly.
