As seen at the 2024 Double or Nothing pay-per-view event, former AEW World Champion MJF made his return to AEW, taking out Adam Cole and cutting a promo in which he claimed to have remembered who he was. He also stated that he wasn’t leaving.

According to a report from Fightful Select, the plan as of last week was to have MJF fly to Phoenix and then be driven to Las Vegas. If he had flown directly to Las Vegas, it would have likely become public that he was in town. It was said that even NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi had been seen by fans.

MJF was reportedly brought into the arena and through the backstage area covered up in a wheelchair. This is often the case when AEW has a surprise planned.

As far as MJF’s contract is concerned, he agreed to a new deal at some point after AEW Double or Nothing 2022. The length of the deal and when it was signed still isn’t known. There was a point where his contract went from mid-July of 2019 to September 1st of 2022. The latest contract has him under a multi-million dollar a year deal and he is one of AEW’s highest-paid talents. As of this writing, there is no word on if the latest deal was an extension to his previous deal or an entirely new deal.

While MJF was injured at the end of last year, he opted to not undergo shoulder surgery. At one point, there were plans for an MJF vs. Adam Cole match but that all changed due to Cole’s injury. A potential MJF vs. Adam Cole match is still a ways off, with Cole not being anywhere close to being cleared for an in-ring return.

Finally, the creative plans for Adam Cole are said to be “out of left field” and will likely end up working out quite well.
