D-Generation X commemorated their 25th anniversary on the October 10, 2022, edition of WWE RAW, featuring Triple H, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, Shawn Michaels, and Road Dogg. However, Billy Gunn was notably absent due to his contractual obligations with AEW.

On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Gunn clarified his absence, attributing it to a miscommunication.

While acknowledging his commitment to AEW, Gunn stressed that while he would have liked to attend, he would not have been resentful about it if it had not been possible.

The DX member recognized that if AEW had a conflict of interest, he would prioritize his current employer and not hold any grudges. While Gunn did feel disappointed at missing the chance to reunite with his former colleagues, ultimately, his professional obligations took precedence.

He said, “Yeah, it was just a miscommunication. It was trying to get (there) and believe you me, I get it. I work for a completely different company. If I can do it, fine. If I can’t get it I’m not gonna (be mad). I spent the majority of my life doing that company and being a part of it. So of course, they want me to be there…But if the company that I’m with now has some issues of what they need and what they want, and if it doesn’t work out, then I can’t go, I can’t be mad about it. You know what I mean? And was I upset? Yeah, cuz I want to hang out with the guys and relive that moment as much as you can. But if it doesn’t work for the company that pays me then I’m not gonna go.”

Gunn also discussed his potential retirement from AEW, leaving open the possibility of another reunion with DX.
