Bully Ray believes it’s wise for AEW to begin booking smaller venues, as he believes the promotion, like others before it, is in a ‘valley.’
AEW has recently been hosting events at smaller venues, after years of events in larger arenas that are often far from filled.
On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Ray argued in favor of AEW downsizing its choice of venues. He said,
“Going to smaller venues is actually a smart move, and every single wrestling company since the beginning of time who has achieved success also has to go through the valleys sometimes.
“You get the peaks where you’re successful, and you come down on the other end and you get the valleys. You go from arenas to smaller buildings, it’s happened to the WWE, it happened to WCW, it happens in Japan, it happens in any company that grows exponentially and becomes really, really big because you can’t stay that hot that long.”
Ray’s comments come after AEW moved its Grand Slam: Australia show from Suncorp Stadium to the smaller Brisbane Entertainment Center.
Suncorp Stadium can hold over 50,000 fans while the BEC has a capacity around 13,000. It’s been reported that the show has underperformed in ticket sales.
