Darby Allin On Why WWE’s ‘Superstar’ Branding Is A Stupid Term

Darby Allin has become one of the top wrestlers in AEW, but the former TNT Champion has no interest in being known by WWE’s ‘Superstar’ label.

WWE uses the term to differ its roster of talent from other promotions, and used the time ‘Diva’ for female wrestlers for the same reason until 2016.

On a recent edition of AEW’s “Meal And A Match” YouTube series, Allin shared his issue with the ‘Superstar’ branding. He said,

“I think being a spokesperson for the younger kids, being like, they can like see me and relate. Like I’m not just coming in and be like “yo everything’s perfect, I’m a Superstar.” I’m like, Superstar is just such a stupid term. We’re like, you’re down here, we’re up here, we’re Superstars. No, like I’m one of you who just made it, you know what I mean? And you can make it too.”

In April 2022, Eddie Kingston also shared his issue with the term, saying that Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair weren’t known as Superstars in their heyday.

Last month, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam weighed in on the wrestlers vs. Superstars debate. Click here to find out what he had to say.
