Bryan Danielson lost the AEW World Heavyweight Championship to Jon Moxley in the main event of the AEW WrestleDream 2024 pay-per-view event with the stipulation that he would have had to retire from full-time wrestling if he lost.

Following the match, Danielson was attacked by the Blackpool Combat Club, which resulted in him being written off television as he is expected to undergo neck surgery.

Now that The American Dragon has retired from full-time wrestling, he plans to work a part-time schedule moving forward.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Danielson intends to get an MRI to assess the condition of his neck. The previous MRI scan showed damage throughout his neck.

Meltzer stated, “What happens next depends on if the level of damage is the same as it was or if it has worsened, and if not, by how much. The hope is that he won’t need surgery and can heal up strong enough with stem cell treatment therapy. But if not, he’ll have to undergo surgery. If or when he can return to the ring depends on how well all of this goes.”

At this point, it’s unknown when Danielson will return to AEW television.
