Jeff Jarrett Recalls Owen Hart’s Death At Over The Edge 1999

Jeff Jarrett will never forget the night that his friend Owen Hart tragically passed away due to a horrific accident at the WWF Over the Edge 1999 pay-per-view event.

On a recent edition of the “Bobby Bones Jones” podcast, Jarrett recalled being told that he had time to prep for his match before plans changed. He said,

“His match was on before me. The backstage stage manager came and said, ‘Hey, Owen is going to the ring, you’re up next.’ I had in my mind 15-18 minutes. Three minutes later, they came and said, ‘You’re on now.’”

Dazed, Jarrett went out and performed as expected, though immediately noticed in the ring that something had gone wrong. He said,

“I felt the top rope was very, very loose, and I went over in the corner where his body had fallen. There was a dip in the ring.”

Jarrett added that his mind was unable to properly process what had happened and that his brain treated it as “another day at work with a tragic accident.”

Jim Ross was given the difficult task of sharing the news of Hart’s death. WWE retired the Over the Edge pay-per-view event due to the tragedy.
