AEW’s Jeff Jarrett is no fan of the ‘tweener’ role in wrestling and prefers more clear-cut babyface/heel dynamics in professional wrestling.
On a recent edition of his “My World” podcast, Jarrett shared his honest take on the idea of tweeners in wrestling. He said,
“The tweener stuff is not marketable at all. The end result of that is a disaster because not only do you not get over as a talent, your segment doesn’t get over.
“You neuter the babyface that it makes it almost impossible for them to get that emotional connection where the viewer wants to get behind that protagonist… 99.9 percent of the time, tweeners suck. It is a death nail.”
Jarrett recalled debuting in AEW and people backstage being surprised by the boos he received, despite Jeff firmly establishing himself as a heel.
