Former WWE creative team writer and current AEW Vice President of Content Development Jennifer Pepperman recently appeared on the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast to discuss her connection with wrestling through her work as a soap opera writer. She said,

“I realized that professional wrestling is like this magical, beautiful art form, and one of the things that I was first really taken by was that the audience is actually like a character. So, after I’d been working for a couple of months, I had this sort of like ‘a-ha’ moment.”

She continued, “I was like, you know, dramatically, it’s not that different than a soap opera, except in professional wrestling, you have a good guy and a bad guy in dramatic conflict, but that conflict is solved by fighting in a wrestling ring. Whereas in a narrative drama, it’s solved by, you know, someone gets shot, someone gets stabbed, people fall in love, people get divorced, someone’s cheating on someone … but the conflict [of wrestling] is solved by fighting in the ring.”

Swerve Strickland believes he’s entered a new phase of his career since becoming AEW World Champion.

While speaking on a recent edition of the “Barstool Rasslin'” podcast, Strickland commented on entering “phase two” of his career. He said,

“I’ve always said me winning the AEW World Championship was phase two. That was the beginning of phase two of my career. Right now, I’m in the midst of like a renegotiation stage because I’m really enjoying my status here in AEW, I’m enjoying everything about the locker room, the roster, the talent, the promotion. I love the fact that I’m a really big part of building the company to different revenue, different avenues and things like that, as far as AEW.”

He continued, “So that’s going to be the beginning of phase three of my career, and this is truly just the beginning of what’s about to happen for me, not just the wrestling side but everything altogether as a performer.”
