Major Update On AAA & CMLL Talent Appearing On AEW Shows Together

As we previously reported here on eWn, AAA and CMLL wrestlers appeared on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, marking a significant development in the working relationship between the two promotions.

AAA and CMLL have historically had a contentious relationship, restricting talents from appearing on the same shows. This strained relationship also affected CMLL’s partners, preventing wrestlers like Lucha Bros and RUSH from participating in past AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view events.

While our previous report suggested that the issues have been resolved, a recent update from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter states that the situation is more complex.

It has been reported that CMLL is agreeable to Mexican-born wrestlers who have not recently worked for AAA appearing alongside their talent.

For instance, Rey Fenix, who has not been affiliated with AAA since October 2022, was permitted to appear on AEW Dynamite. Additionally, RUSH’s non-wrestling segment was approved due to similar considerations.

Notably, CMLL has previously allowed non-wrestling appearances from non-CMLL Mexican talent.

AEW is optimistic about using Penta El Zero Miedo, given that his last match for AAA was in November. Although Penta participated in an AAA-affiliated event with EMW in February and was promoted for another in April, AEW remains confident that he can perform on shows featuring CMLL talent.

The potential involvement of Bandido is also being considered, pending his clearance.

Conversely, individuals like Komander and El Hijo del Vikingo, who have been recent champions in AAA, would reportedly not be permitted.

This new policy is believed to extend to the Forbidden Door concept.
