Shelton Benjamin has finally made his way to All Elite Wrestling, but Tony Khan has reportedly had his eye on the Gold Standard for some time.
Benjamin debuted during the fifth-anniversary episode of AEW Dynamite as an ally of MVP and his in-ring debut saw him defeat Lio Rush.
On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Mark Henry shared that he wanted AEW to sign Benjamin as soon as he was cut from WWE. He said,
“The first day that Shelton got let go, I went to Tony and I said, ‘Tony, you got to pick him in. Bring him in. Let me work with him. Anything. He’s the guy. Nothing happened. I’m glad that they’ve seen the error of their ways and they got him on board. Shelton is special, you’ve got to use him like he’s special. It’s only going to be good for everybody in the long run.”
Benjamin was released from WWE in September 2023 as part of the first wave of talent cuts since the launch of TKO Group Holdings.
During Benjamin’s most recent WWE run, he held the RAW Tag Team and 24/7 Titles and worked with MVP as part of The Hurt Business.
Henry finished his time with AEW earlier this year after three years and has appeared for WWE alongside his son Jacob.
