Matt Hardy believes it is perfectly fine for AEW to give away ‘dream matches’ on free TV rather than save these bouts for its pay-per-view events.
On the upcoming fifth anniversary of AEW Dynamite, International Champion Will Ospreay will face Ricochet years after their 2016 instant classic.
This match has received some criticism with many believing a match with such a storied history should be saved for a pay-per-view.
On a recent edition of his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, Matt Hardy shared why he feels matches like these being on TV works. He said,
“It doesn’t bother me, and I think in some ways that’s a good move for Tony Khan. Especially if you’re trying to make your numbers, be as high as they can. In [that] you’re going to generate interest for your shows, and I feel like the more interest he generates for shows, the better number they do. It’s more of a positive-looking thing for AEW.”
This week, AEW will host its Grand Slam: Dynamite which will see Bryan Danielson take on Nigel McGuinness in a match teased for years.
Hardy wrapped up his AEW run earlier this year and is currently competing for TNA Wrestling. He has also spoken in favor of a WWE return.
