Matt Hardy isn’t wholly opposed to the chair shot used in the Blood & Guts match last week, but wouldn’t like to see such blows become common in AEW.

During the match, Jack Perry was struck in the head with a chair shot, a spot that has become increasingly rare given what is known today about concussions.

On a recent edition of his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, Matt Hardy addressed the spot in question. He said,

“It’s interesting because that was like a legit chair shot and it is what it is. I guess it kind of depends on what perception AEW is trying to project because I know there has been like … they’ve been very adamant about not doing unprotected chair shots in the past, and apparently this one was green-lit and cleared for whatever reason. Maybe because it was a big match or the drama.

“If that was a special occasion and it was — if people felt there was enough reason to do that one, then I’m okay with it. I don’t mind. But I want them to try and do it, the performers to try and do it as safe as possible.”

Matt has his own history of controversial spots in AEW, as in 2020, a spot with Sammy Guevara raised questions and criticism that the company was not safe.

Hardy left AEW earlier this year and has since returned to TNA Wrestling where he has reunited with his brother Jeff.
