MJF lost the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe at AEW Worlds End 2023. Joe later dropped the prestigious title to Swerve Strickland at AEW Dynasty 2024.

On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, MJF, who returned to AEW programming in May, explained why he isn’t currently chasing the AEW World Title.

MJF said, “The guy [Swerve Strickland] is absolutely locked in. He’s next level right now. And do I want to deal with him when he’s a 100% and I am still healing from a shoulder injury, do you think that’s bright Tommy? No.”

He continued, “I pick my spots. Everybody in this company is dumb, I’ll explain why. Everybody in this company works hard. Working hard is for suckers, Tommy. It’s stupid. I work smart. I pick my spots. That title will be around my waist because I am the best professional wrestler in the world.”

MJF emerged victorious over Hechicero last night at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024. On the other hand, Strickland defeated Will Ospreay to retain the AEW World Title in the main event of the show.
