Tony Khan believes sharing the backstage altercation between Jack Perry and CM Punk helped AEW secure its deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

The footage was aired during the April 10th edition of Dynamite, following unflattering comments made by Punk on “The MMA Hour” podcast.

Many criticized AEW for airing the footage, believing it showed that Khan couldn’t move past the fight and that it was a cheap ratings ploy.

On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that Khan believes airing the footage was “key” to getting AEW’s new deal with WBD.

It’s added that Khan has shown no sign that he thinks he made a mistake by airing the footage, despite the criticism from fans and those in wrestling.

AEW’s new deal with WBD is estimated to be valued at $185 million a year and will ensure the continuation of AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision.
