In a recent chat with Kevin Kellam of Sportskeeda Wrestling, WWE United States Champion Austin Theory was quick to quash online rumors about Triple H’s opinion of him. Theory was handpicked by Vince McMahon for superstardom, but his direction seemingly suffered a turn for the worse following Triple H taking over as Head of Creative.
Theory began suffering frequent losses and amidst rumors that Triple H was burying him since he was a “Vince McMahon guy,” he even failed his Money in the Bank cash-in in what appeared to be the final nail in the coffin. Theory said,
“The internet will always talk. I think we all know that. There was a time where I lost the Money in the Bank briefcase, and my career was over. Young 25-year-old Austin Theory, it’s all over. Whatever, but yeah, there’s always, ‘How was it working with Mr. McMahon? How was it working with Triple H? Is it better for you? Is it worse?’ Man, it’s great. Working with Mr. McMahon, it was wild, it was expect the unexpected. I never knew what was gonna happen.”
Elaborating on the difference between the creative process under Vince McMahon and Triple H, Theory was appreciative of having the opportunity to work under the learning tree of both men. He added,
“Triple H, I have a little bit more of knowing what’s gonna happen, but the creative side is great from both sides. I was privileged and blessed enough to have that guidance from both of them [Triple H and McMahon]. Even now, being with Triple H, and this isn’t my first time with Triple H. Back in NXT, Triple H is who’d seen me at EVOLVE, and that’s what got me signed to WWE.”
Needless to say, the said rumors died down as quickly as they spread. Austin Theory’s direction was immediately rehabilitated following his failed MITB cash-in. He began being presented as more serious, ruthless and vicious than ever, as opposed to the rather comical “selfie” gimmick he had while associated with Vince McMahon.
Theory has since regained the WWE United States Championship, and defended it successfully against the likes of Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and Edge.
And next up for him is John Cena at WrestleMania 39, who will be returning to RAW tomorrow night in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts.
