Hiroshi Tanahashi was recently appointed as the President and Representative Director of New Japan Pro Wrestling, replacing Takami Ohbari in that role.

NJPW had appointed Ohbari as the President in 2020, as the height of the pandemic crippled the company’s financial situation.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that there were several issues between the NJPW staff and Ohbari.

Moreover, NJPW star Kazuchika Okada had heat with Ohbari and wanted him out of the company.

The report states, “A key reason Takami Ohbari stepped down as NJPW President was that there were issues with staff & Ohbari’s usage of power over them.

A major reason was that Ohbari had heat with a number of people, including Kazuchika Okada.

Okada was said to have wanted him out. Others said that Ohbari never really understood the wrestling business and didn’t respect the value of Okada.”

Now that Ohbari is gone, only time will tell whether NJPW will prosper under Tanahashi’s leadership.
