Backstage News On The WWE Releases Of Tyler Breeze & Fandango, Their NXT Roles

As many of you know by now, Tyler Breeze and Fandango (Breezango) were released from WWE on Friday. The tag-team had been appearing on NXT in recent months, and even had a run with the NXT Tag-Team Championships.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer, the idea for Breezango working on the WWE NXT brand was to serve as experienced veterans who could work with and teach some of the younger guys. As you’d expect, they were seen as “bigger names” as they’ve been on the main roster before. There was also hope that their name value would help WWE NXT compete with AEW Dynamite in the TV ratings. WWE had a mindset of sending guys to NXT who had been on “real TV,” and NXT would be able to beat AEW in the quarter hour segments due to it. Of course, NXT wound up moving to Tuesdays so that was no longer the case.

With that being said, Fandango and Breeze didn’t turn into significant ratings draws for NXT. This is also why Finn Balor and Charlotte Flair have both worked in WWE NXT as they’ve been on the main roster before and have bigger drawing power than most of the current WWE NXT roster.
