It’s expected that former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose will be leaving the company soon. Once his contract expires in April, Ambrose has reportedly made the decision not to re-sign with the company. However, WWE took it upon themselves to publicly acknowledge this on their website, which is out-of-the-ordinary for these situations.
In turn, the professional wrestling world has been buzzing as to whether or not the situation is a work. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio has brought some insight into the backstage reaction the story has garnered. While Meltzer believes the Ambrose story is real, some talent backstage believe the whole thing is a work. Also, some talent were already made aware of Ambrose’s decision prior to Monday’s episode of RAW.
But most were kept in the dark until it was officially announced on Tuesday. Meltzer pointed out that the majority of creative team members were unaware of Ambrose’s intentions to leave WWE, and had no idea that the angle with Nia Jax was made to humiliate him on his way out the door. Some of Ambrose’s fellow employees also found it surprising that he turned down such a lucrative seven-figure deal.
However, Meltzer pointed out Ambrose isn’t happy with WWE and doesn’t care about the money. As a bit of a teaser, Meltzer also said Ambrose is good friends with AEW’s Chris Jericho and Cody Rhodes.
