Backstage Update On MJF’s Status With AEW

Just last month, MJF cut a “pipebomb” promo on an episode of AEW Dynamite after having issues with his All Elite Wrestling contract and CEO Tony Khan.

Since that time, MJF has not appeared for the second biggest wrestling promotion in the United States. The issues were said to have been brewing for months and it is not a work by any means.

In an update on MJF’s status, Fightful is reporting that no AEW talent or staffers have spoken to him and he’s largely been silent. Some of those who were close to the “Salt of the Earth” said he hasn’t communicated with them in any way, shape, or form.

It should be noted that MJF stayed in Los Angeles, CA for several days following his last appearance on AEW Dynamite for “on-screen, non-wrestling related meetings.” There are some reports that he filmed a segment with several cast members of the Impractical Jokers show in New Jersey last week. This is a show that airs on Warner Bros. Discovery’s TruTV, but there is no word on if the content was being filmed for the show itself or something else.

As far as AEW President Tony Khan is concerned, he is simply refusing to address anything related to MJF, even to those close to him. Since the “pipebomb” promo, nobody has talked to him.

There are some in the company who believe MJF truly wants to go to WWE and is simply refusing to return to AEW. It remains to be seen whether Tony Khan extends MJF’s contract to prevent him from going to the rival promotion, or if some sort of agreement between the two men will eventually be reached. If he wants to do so, Khan can basically “hold him hostage” until he meets his contract obligations. AEW does have a clause in their contracts that states if a talent is injured or is refusing to work, their contracts can be extended.

So at this point, the two sides remain in a standoff with neither side budging.
