As reported several weeks ago here on eWrestlingNews.com, former WWE Total Divas cast member Summer Rae was released from WWE. Rae, Emma and Darren Young were all released on the same day.
According to sources, WWE’s initial hope for Summer Rae was to have her compete in a non-wrestling role, similar in some ways to former WWE “Divas” Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson. WWE reportedly no longer viewed Summer as being a “good fit” for that role. Rae’s angle with Rusev and Lana was scrapped after Lana went on social media and revealed that she and Rusev became engaged in real-life. Once numerous media outlets picked up on the story, WWE officials were no longer able to salvage Summer Rae’s part in the angle. We reported at the time that there was “massive heat” on Lana for revealing the engagement news on social media and “screwing up” the whole storyline.
