During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair commented on what she and Sasha Banks said to each other before their WrestleMania (Night One) main event, and more. You can check out some highlights from the interview below:
On winning the SmackDown Women’s title from Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37: “It takes two people to make this special, and I’m so honored to be able to stand across from Sasha Banks and be the one to end her title run,” Belair says. “Inside the ring, outside the ring, Sasha is the standard, the blueprint. I needed to prove myself against her. She elevates every person she comes in contact with, and that’s what she did for me. For what Sasha did for me, I’ll be forever grateful to her.”
On what she and Banks said to each other before making their way to the ring for their match: “Right before we went out, we were in Gorilla together. We both looked at each other and said, ‘This moment is ours; let’s do this.’”
On her goals as champion: “I’m representing the whole company, the whole women’s locker room. I look at the way Sasha did it. She modeled the way. I need to represent. This is my moment, and I want to inspire people and make an impact. That’s really what this is about, and I’m honored to be in this position to make a difference around the globe.”
On wanting to beat all of the Four Horsewomen of WWE: “I had a feud with Bayley right before the Royal Rumble and I pinned Bayley, and now I beat Sasha. Now I want to go after the other two [in the] Four Horsewomen. I want to be the one to beat all of them, and prove I am the EST of WWE. I want to represent the new generation of WWE and show that we’re coming.”
