WWE has confirmed a big match and segment for next week’s RAW broadcast. The company has announced that Rey Mysterio will be holding his “retirement ceremony” next week.
On May 15th, we reported here on eWn that Seth Rollins attacked Rey Mysterio on Monday Night Raw, setting up an injury angle. WWE did this because Mysterio had not yet signed a new deal with the company. His current status is unknown. There’s no guarantee that he’ll re-sign with WWE, but there’s no indication that he won’t’ either. The current idea is, if he does re-sign, once he’s back, he’ll have a feud ready to go with Rollins. If not, they could always write him off TV the same way they did Matt Hardy. One key reason Mysterio may stick around is because he doesn’t want to upset anyone in WWE and affect the career of his son, Dominick. Mysterio has a “very high contract” with WWE right now, as they didn’t want him to go back to New Japan, which he was starting to do when he came back. Given there was no AEW at that time either, Mysterio signed an 18-month deal with WWE. With WWE not giving any raises during the current pandemic, this could stall negotiations a bit.
Also on RAW, Aleister Black will face off against Seth Rollins in singles competition.
