On Wednesday night, the WWE NXT Championship match for TakeOver 36 was revealed during a special TV taping of NXT.
Current WWE NXT Champion Karrion Kross will defend his championship against the one and only Samoa Joe at TakeOver 36 on August 22, 2021. This match will mark the in-ring return of Samoa Joe, as his last match occurred on February 10, 2020.
Kross vs. Joe for the NXT title is official for the 8-22 Takeover.

The TV tapings featured an in-ring segment where Joe offered NXT General Manager William Regal his resignation as an NXT authority figure so that he could face Kross at TakeOver 36. The paperwork was then officially signed by Regal making the match official.
