During Wednesday night’s Dynamite broadcast, Sting made his AEW debut following a match where AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes defeated Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs. Following the match, a brawl broke out between Team Taz and The Nightmare Family. As Hobbs was about to hit Cody with the FTW Championship, the lights went out and Sting came out.
Sting came down to the ring with his trademark baseball bat as Team Taz took off. Sting came face-to-face with Arn Anderson and then looked at Dustin Rhodes, followed by Cody and then Darby Allin. The face-off between Allin and Sting lasted for a bit longer than the others. Sting eventually walked off and gave a few of his trademarked “Woo!” chants.
Jim Ross announced after the commercial break that Tony Khan had signed Sting to a “multi-year contract.”
Sting’s appearance on AEW Dynamite marks the first time he’s appeared on TNT since the final match of WCW Nitro in March of 2001. He then worked in TNA Wrestling and finally appeared for WWE in 2014. In 2016, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and retired at that time. Sting’s contract with WWE expired last month.
We hope to have more shortly.
