Bryan Danielson may be a dream opponent for countless wrestlers competing today, but the American Dragon tries not to dwell on potential dream matches.

During a recent edition of the “Getting Over” podcast, Danielson was asked about the likes of GUNTHER & Ilja Dragunov, and while Bryan could foresee great matches with them, he’d rather not. He said,

“As somebody who regularly experiences depression, I try not to focus on things that are necessarily reality-based. That’s not great for my mental health. Because I would do this [think about dream matches] when I was in WWE … ‘If only I could wrestle this guy or under these circumstances.

“For example, this New Japan circumstance where you’re doing these matches without TV breaks, and you’re not given a specific time to do a match. Or sometimes, in WWE, you’re given three-and-a-half minutes [laughs] or whatever it is.”

Danielson added that he couldn’t really appreciate his WWE run at the time as he was always wanting to wrestle in different circumstances.

The American Dragon recently had what many consider a dream match; beating Zack Sabre Jr. at last weekend’s AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view event.
