Charlotte Flair’s character on WWE programming has transcended the labels of face and heel, according to the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.
Since signing with WWE over a decade ago, Flair has played both roles and has drawn heat from fans for what has been perceived as favorable treatment.
When asked about her character on the Dan LeBatard Show, Flair said she has struggled to relate to fans as a heel, and struggled to win over fans as a babyface. She added:
“So, now my mindset is I’m not a good guy, I’m not a bad guy. I’m just the woman. I spent so many years trying to get people to boo me, and now with the reception with the fans and them being so excited to see me, I just try not to overthink it.”
Flair added that fans have enjoyed seeing a more arrogant side of her and are inclined to cheer her on because they want her to be herself rather than being “corny.”
Charlotte Flair will defend the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39 against 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble match winner Rhea Ripley.
