Ever since his triumphant return at the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, Cody Rhodes has been a busy man. In a recent appearance on WWE’s “The Bump,” The American Nightmare discussed a variety of topics; most importantly his impending collision with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
Reminiscing on his earliest encounters with Reigns, The American Nightmare looked back on the early Shield days, when he was still a part of WWE.
“It’s lasting memories of being in the ring with Roman, being in the ring with Seth, and respectfully, also being in the ring with Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley. And here’s why it’s lasting memories with the Rhodes and The Shield and that continued thing,” said Rhodes.
Interestingly, looking back at Cody’s time in All Elite Wrestling, he never crossed paths with Jon Moxley in nearly two years. Be that as it may, The Prince of Professional Wrestling proceeded to shower praise on The Shield during their original run.
“Kevin Dunn might be the only person I ever verbalized this to, I don’t mean to shout anybody out because it’s the nature of how I do it, I always felt like I was catching up to them because they were as good as they could possibly get, they were unbeatable. I mean they hadn’t lost until they came across Dustin and I,” added Rhodes.
Needless to say, the upcoming main event clash between Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania is several steps above their matches circa 2013-14, and The American Nightmare looks to be Reigns’ most formidable challenger over his nearly 900 day reign.
