Parting ways with WWE turned out to be a very smart financial decision for Colt Cabana according to the man himself.

Cabana signed with WWE in 2007 and worked under the name Scotty Goldman when he was called up to SmackDown in August 2008.

Cabana lost all of his matches on TV and was released from WWE in February 2009.

During a recent episode of the “Stories With Brisco and Bradshaw” podcast, Cabana said that the exposure he received on WWE programming helped his long-term prospects in wrestling. He said,

“I knew it was an investment in my future. That’s the only place you can make millions of dollars, so I went to OVW for a year [and] I got over… I wasn’t set up to have the best situation [when I got called up to the main roster,] so I had six matches of losing very quickly. [But] it led to the most success I’ve ever had in my career, which was my post-WWE career [where] I made ten times what I made in WWE.”

Cabana was able to get out of his non-compete clause with WWE and made his return to PWG the day after his release.

Years later, Cabana would be name-dropped during CM Punk’s “Pipe Bomb” promo in June 2011.
