AEW wrestler Darby Allin was ready to sacrifice everything, even having a home, to make it as a pro wrestler.
Allin, considered to be one of the four pillars of AEW, is a former TNT Champion, and holds the record for the longest reign with the gold.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Sessions podcast, Allin told Renee Paquette about the period of his life when he had no permanent home. He said,
“That’s when I moved from Seattle to Atlanta. Because Seattle was the black hole of wrestling. There was no shows at the time. This was before Defy and everything, you couldn’t wrestle in the state. The commission wouldn’t let you have pro wrestling shows in the state. So we’d always have to go.”
Allin said he did not mind being homeless, as it was a reminder as to how much was riding on a successful wrestling career.
“I just didn’t have a comfort zone. I feel like a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, I really want this to work out,’ But they don’t put everything into it. I wanted to look at myself in the mirror and be like, ‘Yo, you dedicated everything in this so you have no f***ing excuse if you don’t make it.’”
In addition to his TNT title reign, Allin won AEW’s Breakout star (Men’s) award last year.
